Dennis ‘Tubby’ Hargreave took of from an airstrip at Long Muram in Sarawak in 209 Sqn RAF Twin Pioneer XN318. The destination airfield was Labuan. When the aircraft did not arrive, a search was instituted. This was hampered by bad weather.
The burnt-out wreckage of the Pioneer was found a few miles from Long Muram and a rescue party landed by helicopter found that there were no survivors. The bodies of the men were buried at the crash location.
