Bob Body's Grave18th June 1958: Driver Robert ‘Bob’ Body, age 23.

Bob was on escort duties and was in the back of a open sided three-tonner travelling from Nicosia to Famagusta. The vehicle stopped at the ‘Halfway House’ which had a large verandah from where the vehicle could be seen. This was the one place where permission had been granted enabling the escort to leave the vehicle as long as it was kept in sight. The Driver and JNCO were walking to the Cafe Bob was told, “Come on Bob, you’re allowed to dismount here”. Bob carrying his loaded Sten Gun leapt over the side and on landing his weapon discharged putting two rounds into his midriff. He died three days later in BMH.

Bob is buried in Nicosia (Waynes Keep) Military Cemetery, Cyprus. Plot 25 Row A Grave 5.
